Etuonu who spoke to News men in his country home Abavo yesterday 11th April 2020 gave reasons why Deltans should adhere strictly to the government precautionary measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 Pandemic.

Group Condemns FG's Plan to Borrow $30b, and Approved N37 For N/Assembly Renovation.

Human Right Liberty Access and Peace Defenders (HURIDE ), has  condemned the plan by the Federal Government of Nigeria to borrow a whopping sum of $30 billion loan for the country.

Unfortunately, said HURIDE, as incentive to convince the National Assembly to  approve the loan, the Federal Government has approved  N37 billion for the renovation of National Assembly.

Further Condemning this approval, HURIDE in a statement signed by its chairman, Board of Trustees, Dede Uzor, A. Uzor and Chief media officer Mazi Unah Zack Unah signed in Enugu said that this amount to " rob my back and I rob your body type of politics '"  which will not work in this country again should be totally condemned.

HURIDE Flays Obiano Over Failed Rehabilitation of Bad Roads in Anambra

Governor Willie Obiano's alleged failure to fulfill his promises to rehabilitate all the failed roads in the State on or before December 2019, has elicited strident criticism from Human Right, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders' Foundation (HURIDE).

The group in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka, the state capital,  expressed surprise that inspite of the firm promises by Governor to rehabilitate the roads, not up to 20 percent of the  failed roads in Onitsha and environms were retouched.

Said the group"if the roads in critical areas like  Onitsha and environs were not worked on, you should better imagine what happened to  failed roads in other  parts of the State".

An Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ndigbo Unity Assemblly (NUA), has commended the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Oyi Division, Mr.Sam Nwachukwu, and others  for their
commitment to fight child trafficking and theft in the State.

Speaking when the group paid the DPO courtesy call in his office at Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area of the State, the President of the group, Dede Uzor A Uzor, said they came particularly to commend him in his role in recovering the two school pupils of Central School, Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area.

Wheel Barrow Levy: Prevail on Awogu, Ogbaru Market Stakeholders tell Obiano

The Stakeholders of Ogbaru Main Market, in a suburb of Onitsha, Anambra State, have called on Governor Willie Obiano to prevail  on the chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Arinze Awogu, for his incessant attempts to ferment trouble in the market.

The spokesperson for the stakeholders of the  market, Mr. Izuchukwu Okeke,  said this has become imperative to stem the tide of  likely   break down of law and order in the market.
Awogu was alleged to have  led a horde of hoodlums comprising former members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB),to the market last Monday  to commence the collection of wheel barrow tolls, which the traders vehemently refused.

He said the chairman and his thugs were accompanied by one Onyeka Chiakpari, who adds Obiano to his surname to instil fear on people because he hails from Aguleri, but not related with the Governor.

HURIDE Flays Buhari Over Indirect, Multiple Taxation of of Nigerians

The Human Right, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE), has Condemned President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government over his continuous multiple taxation of Nigerians.

The human right body in a statement issued in FCT Abuja,the capital, said the indirect taxation was obnoxious, ill timed,anti people, sacrilegious, evil, lack of economic vision and therefore cannot stand.

In the statement signed by the chairman of Board of Trustees of HURIDE, Dede Uzor A. Uzor, the group said the taxation would increase the sufferings, hunger and poverty of Nigerians instead of generating prosperity as was promised during president Muhammed Buhari's general election campaign.

Right Group Tasks Anambra CP on Bad Eggs

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, John Abang, has been asked to look inward to discover those bad eggs in his Command who engage in extortion of road users.

The Human Right,  Liberty Access, and Peace Defenders Foundation  (HURIDE), which made the call in Awka, the Anambra State, lamented that some Policemen in the State especially Onitsha were engaged in extorting of the motorists and Keke operators.

The chairman, Board of Trustees of HURIDE, Dede Uzor A. Uzor, alleged that Policemen contributes  some percentage for daily traffic gridlock at the Onitsha Bridgehead (Under Bridge), Ziks Roundabouts,Niger street via Main Market,Upper Iweka flyover, Onitsha Owerri by Mythological Institute,Owerri road by Aba park opposite New Tarzan motors, Oba old road near Igwe's palace, Onitsha Obosi bypass among other strategic areas because they were bent in collecting money from commercial motorists and Keke drivers.

Delta State Orientation Bureau Steps Up Campaign On Rising Water Level And Flood Management

ASABA - Sequel to an alert issued by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) warning Nigerians of imminent increase in flooding, in September, the Delta State Govt thru its Orientation Bureau has stepped -up campaigns to manage flooding/prevention and mitigations  across the various local government areas in the state.

 The Director-General of the State Orientation Bureau, Barr Uzum Azuka Eugene, while paying a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Environment on Monday in Asaba, said the Orientation Bureau has kicked started the grassroots sensitization and awareness campaigns in identified flood-prone areas within the state.

Trailer Mishap: 10 Feared Dead in Onitsha

At least ten persons were said to have died in Onitsha, Anambra State following the fall of a 40- feet container on people at Obodo-Ukwu by Upper Iweka along Onitsha -Owerri Road.

An eyewitness said the trailer carrying the container was heading towards Owerri when it carved in at  the bad portion of the Express. 

The container fell on the people along the Express Road, especially petty traders and Keke operators, killing about 10 persons and several others who were injured were taken to hospital.

He said that the level of the accelerated development is proudly commendable, stating that Delta is fast becoming a hub for foreign investors as something must act as attractive force to be able to attract investors.

Gazette Onitsha River Port Now, Stakeholders Urge FG

Federal Government has been urged to immediately complete the process of gazetting the Onitsha River Port so that  it will commence operation.

The call was made by the participants of the 12th  edition of the "The Perspective", an annual lecture series of Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry,Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA), held at Sharon House, GRA, Onitsha.

The President of the chamber, Mr. Donatus Ebubeogu, who fired the first salvo in his welcome address said the  Federal Government should as a matter of priority complete the gazetting of the Onitsha River Port for the Port to commence operation.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambta State has been urged to review his stand  to impose  Caretaker Committee on the Amalgamated Market Traders of Anambra State (AMATAS).

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of AMATAS after a crucial meeting during the week appealed to Governor Obiano to allow the traders to elect their leaders through democratic process to avoid any friction within markets in the State.

The umbrella market organisation had planned to conduct election on June 5, 2019 with all the preparations completed but on June 4, 2019, the Governor called the outcome president  Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo to call off the election, hinting of his plan to set up Caretaker Committee to oversee the markets in the State.

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has announced the creation of Social Media handles for effective information dissemination and interaction with Deltans and Nigerians.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa said the creation of the Social Media handles was in addition to the existing State Government website.
According to the statement, the website and social media handles will keep members of the public updated on the SMART Agenda, accomplishments and events of the Okowa led administration even as members of the public are encouraged to interface with the Governor on the different social media platforms.

“The state website offers a user-friendly functionality and rich content. The website as well as the official social media accounts offer quick and easy access to essential information and features to keep Deltans, Nigerians, the media and indeed the general public abreast of activities of the Okowa led government in Delta State”.

The Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) has granted waiver to Dr O’diakpo Obire ahead of the 2019 governorship election in Delta State.

PPA National Chairman, Chief Peter Ameh disclosed this while addressing newsmen shortly after Obire obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms to run for the election in Delta.

He said that the decision to give waiver to Obire, who formally joined the party last week, became necessary in order to deepen democracy in the country.

Ameh, who was a former National Chairman and two-time Secretary of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), pledged that PPA would conduct transparent and credible primaries.

WOMAN SLUMP, DIES DURING ''DIE BY FIRE'' PRAYERS IN DELTA


Tragedy struck in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday following the death of a 40-year-old housewife, Chiekubi Dumebi while praying in one of the Pentecostal churches in the area.

It was gathered the woman slumped and died right inside the church.

Pastor Isreal Oghenovo in charge of the church, who spoke to newsmen said: “I asked the woman to pray harder like never before on a Monday morning service, and what we saw during service was the way she slumped and died, it is shocking”.

10 Burnt To Death In Ughelli Express Road Military Check Point

No fewer than ten people were reported to have been burnt to death in a military check point mounted by Nigeria soldiers at Ekerawhen Junction of the East-West Road, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday night, Delta Decides learnt that the multiple road accident involving cars and a fuel tanker was alleged to have been caused by the soldiers who were trying to stop a fuel tanker who refused to give them the usual check point tip.
