Group Condemns FG's Plan to Borrow $30b, and Approved N37 For N/Assembly Renovation.

Human Right Liberty Access and Peace Defenders (HURIDE ), has  condemned the plan by the Federal Government of Nigeria to borrow a whopping sum of $30 billion loan for the country.

Unfortunately, said HURIDE, as incentive to convince the National Assembly to  approve the loan, the Federal Government has approved  N37 billion for the renovation of National Assembly.

Further Condemning this approval, HURIDE in a statement signed by its chairman, Board of Trustees, Dede Uzor, A. Uzor and Chief media officer Mazi Unah Zack Unah signed in Enugu said that this amount to " rob my back and I rob your body type of politics '"  which will not work in this country again should be totally condemned.

HURIDE Lauds AntiCult Commander for releasing 13 Suspected Cultists

The Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation ( HURIDE ) has commended the Commander of Anti Cult team of Anambra State Police Command, CSP Christopher Bassey,  for releasing 13 suspected cultists who were later found not to  be members of cult groups.

The chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT),of HURIDE, Dede Uzor A. Uzor, said they were impressed for during the   unconditional release of the suspects without collecting a kobo from their family members as was the case  with other officers.

Follow Due Process, ATF Charges New Anambra Commerce Commissioner

The new Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Wealth Creation in Anambra State, Chief Uchenna Okafor, has been urged to follow due process, rule of law and respect for citizens' rights in the discharge of his official functions.

The Anambra State Traders' Forum (ATF), which made the call in a statement in Onitsha, commended Governor Willie Obiano for reassigning Chief Okafor from Transport Ministry to Commerce and Trade Ministry.

HURIDE after its crucial national executive meeting in Abuja, called for the immediate arraignment of the soldiers directly and remotely involved in the murder of the Policemen on national assignment.

The chairman of Marketers of Local and Foreign Drinks Association, Ogbaru in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, a suburb of Onitsha, Mr. Ifeanyi Michael Ugwu, has vowed to flush out those trading on fake, substandard and expired drinks in their Market.

The chairman who spoke during the seventh anniversary of the association assured that with the support of Anambra State Government and security operatives in the State they would sanitise the market.

He lauded  Governor Willie Obiano, of Anambra State for his commitment to secure the lives and property of Anambra  people and the development of markets in the State.

Anambra Market Crisis: "You must conduct election" - Board of Trustees Insists

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of Amalgamated Markets Traders of Anambra State (AMATAS), has insisted that they will soon conduct the election into the executive of the body to fill the vacuum created by the exit of their immediate leader, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo.

The acting chaiman of BoT, AMATAS, Chief Emmanuel Udegbunam, told newsmen  in their office at Modebe Avenue, Onitsha that they have been consulting with the relevant stakeholders of the body and after that consultation they will hold their election.

He said the tenure of Ezenwankwo led executive will  expire by the of this June but because Chief Nwankwo wanted to formally hand over to a new executive they fixed June 5, 2019 for the election which was postponed indefinitely on the request of Governor Willie Obiano.

Gazette Onitsha River Port Now, Stakeholders Urge FG

Federal Government has been urged to immediately complete the process of gazetting the Onitsha River Port so that  it will commence operation.

The call was made by the participants of the 12th  edition of the "The Perspective", an annual lecture series of Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry,Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA), held at Sharon House, GRA, Onitsha.

The President of the chamber, Mr. Donatus Ebubeogu, who fired the first salvo in his welcome address said the  Federal Government should as a matter of priority complete the gazetting of the Onitsha River Port for the Port to commence operation.

The Anambra State Traders Consultative Forum (ATF), has flayed some traders in Onitsha, especially in Ochanja market for making "unverifiable, unfounded and false allegations against the leadership of the Almagamated Traders Association of Anambra State (AMATAS).

A trader at Ochanja market had alleged that AMATAS leadership was behind Street trading at Ziks Avenue in Onitsha.

The Onitsha Police Area Command in a bid to eliminate criminal elements intimidating and extorting people in Onitsha, the Anambra State commercial nerve centre have arrested over 80 hoodlums in the commercial town.

The the clamp down on the hoodlums, said a competent Police source commenced a fortnight ago and was being led by the Onitsha Area Command,Mr. John Obuagbaka, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

The arrests, according to our source, has shown the effort of the Area Commander to sanitize Onitsha of hoodlums who have vowed to make the  commercial city uncomfortable for the residents and visitors.

A suspected 28 year old  homosexual, Mr Anthony Chukwuemeka Esimoneze, narrowly  escaped being lynched yesterday at Fegge, Onitsha in Anambra State.

Trouble  was said have started  for the homosexual when he was caught  stark naked in homosexuality with an  unidentified male student who took to his heel when a food vendor went to ease herself at a hiding corner,in a motor mechanic workshop.

The food vendor was said to have seen  them in the act and alerted the neighbours and passers-by who came and arrested Esimoneze.

As the July1, 2018 deadline for the ban of Okada to take effect draws close,  Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has been urged to reconsider his decision to ban Okada in  Onitsha.

The chairman of  Ogbaru Plastic Dealers in  Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State who made the  plea in an interview with newsmen in Onitsha said contrary to the perception of many that the ban on Okada will reduce crime,  it will not bring down crime as expected.

He said ban on Okada in Onitsha will no doubt affect the business in the commercial city especially his market because they use Okada riders to waybill their goods.

Market Elders In Anambra Want Caretaker ...give 14 day ultimatum to Govt.

The Anambra State Government has  been given 14 -day ultimatum to set up a Caretaker Committee in Ogbaru Main Market following the alleged gross and established cases of corruption and fraud against the leadership of Chief Victor Nwawuzie.

Speaking to newsmen during a press briefing in Onitsha, the Ogbaru Main Market Elders Forum (OMMEF), said there have been instances of corruption and fraud in  the collection of government revenue such as stollage fees,traders' tax, and development levy.

Speaking on behalf of the OMMEF, Chief Nnamdi Okonkwo,  alleged that 70 percent of revenues collected in the market  were not paid into Government's purse.

NBA Wants Area Commander Transferred For Humiliating Judge...Gives 7-Day Ultimatum

The Idemili branch of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Anambra State has demanded for the immediate transfer of the the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the newly created Idemili Area Command, Mr . Ekeocha for insulting, humiliating and intimidation of a Judge in the  State Judiciary, Justice, Peace N.T. Otti.

In a petition to the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar, the  Idemili NBA asked that Ekeocha should tender unreserved apology to the Judge not later than seven days  from the day of  delivery of  this petition to the Commissioner of Police.

Justice Otti, according to the petition signed by Hon S.O Chukwukelu and Chike Okoye, was in the morning of June 26, 2018, at Ugwunwasike in Ogidi, headquarters of Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State, embarrassed and harassed by ACP Ekeocha who blocked the Judge's car for covering the plate number.

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris,  has been urged to  remove one of his Commanders in charge of IG  Special Squad in Port Harcourt, Rivers State,  Mr. Ben Igwe, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), for allegedly compromising  his official position by meddling into Oba land dispute.

In a joint  press conference during the weekend by the Anambra Democratic Vanguard (ADV), Oba Women Development Front (OWDF) and Oba Land Dispute Resolution Groups (OLDR),  they demanded to know whether the membership of IG Special Squad gave a Police officer the powers to come all the way from Porthacourt, Rivers State to  intimidate and arrest people in Anambra State over land dispute.

According to the spokesman of the groups, Chief Kenechukwu Ojukwu, one Chuba Oranusi, the President-General of Ogwugwu village and Ifeanyi Nkemdilim, the President-General of Isu village both in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have been using Igwe to harass, intimidate and arrest the Aboji Akanano indigenes over land dispute between them.

The Eziowelle community in Idemili North Local Government Area  of Anambra State has described as " laughable and false" the allegation that the community collects one million naira to bury the dead in their place.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday in the Igwe 's Palace  both the traditional ruler, Igwe Michael  Okonkwo Etusi and the President General, Hon.Titus. N Akpudo, said the allegation that the community collects one million naira  before they bury deaf person was not only false but still part of  campaign  of calumny against the winners of the election of new executives of the community held last weekend.

Igwe  OKONKWO ETUSI who expressed shock at the level of mischief of some people in the community just because they wanted power at all cost said the only levy paid in the community by the relations of the dead  was the N3,000 annual development and security levy if the person was owing it before  his  death. He emphatically stated that clearance for public functions in Eziowelle starts from EIU branches and Age Grades level before getting to the EIU National Secretariat for final clearance.
