In his response to claims by APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole that the party would be defeated if he's fielded in 2019, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State expressed surprise that barely one week after Oshiomhole described him as “a star of the APC”, he was now casting aspersions on him.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akasee, Ortom said, “If Oshiomhole was a man of honour, he would have held on to his words when he described Governor Ortom as a star of the party. Governor Ortom did an amnesty programme, where thousands of youths were disarmed and over 1,000 arms were recovered.
