Oraifite Crisis: HURIDE asks Obiano to set up Panel of Inquiry...Visit the scene of the incident

The Human Right, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE), has called on Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State to as a matter of utmost immediacy set up a Judicial Panel of Inquiry into the fracas which led to the killings of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Oliver Abbey,  and the Special Anti-Robbery Commander, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Joseph Akubo, and other  civilians in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

HURIDE also frowned on the lackadaisical attitudes of the governor Wellie Obiano over his inability to visit the scene of the ugly incident more than 2 weeks after...

The fracas was also said to have led to the razing down of  the houses belonging to the family members of Indigenous People's of Biafra (IPOB)'s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and his relations.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the rights group said the State Governor should constitute a Judicial Commission of Inquiry(JCI) to look into the remote and immediate causes of the unfortunate incident.

In the statement signed by the chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), HURIDE,Dede Uzor A Uzor, said the Panel would be headed by a retired Chief Judge, with a Police Officer, a Military Officer, a legal practioner, a human right activist, President-General and Secretary of Oraifite community, two priests representing Catholic and Anglican churches as members.

The Panel, he said, should have the mandate to make recommendations, abortion blames and suggestions on how to avoid future occurrence of such mayhem among others including the payment of compensation to the Police officers and  others who lost their lives in the mayhem.

The group said the Panel should strive to ensure fair hearing from all the parties and individuals involved and recommend measures to avoid such unfortunate  incident in future and prosecution  of the culprits to serve as a deterrents to others who may engage in such man's inhumanity to man again. Dede Uzor cautioned.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has  been called to as a matter of urgency repair the Upper Iweka section of Onitsha-Owerri Express Road which has become a death trap to the users of the road.

The Human Right, Liberty Access, and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE), in a statement in Onitsha, the Anambra State commercial hub, decries the deplorable State of the road, where a lot of lives have been lost and vehicles fallen.

In the statement signed by the chairman, Board of Trustees ( BoT) and the Secretary Barr. Noel Udoji, HURIDE also decried the rather lackadaisical attitude of the Governor towards rehabilitating  Federal roads in the State.

They said his claim that it is a Federal road and he would not be reimbursed if he rehabilitate the roads,,  does not hold water because 90 percent of the users of the are Anambra people who he swore to provide good governance for.

The Human Right, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE) has appealed to the Anambra State Police Command to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the pupils of Police Children school in Onitsha.

HURIDE said in a statement made available to news men in Onitsha that the Command should help in completing the children's classroom block which has been under construction but abandoned for more than one year now.

According to our discreet investigation has compelled the children to take refuge in the PCRC hall at the Central Police Station  (CPS),Onitsha, where they are presently receiving  their lessons.

But things have not been easy for the children and their teachers, said Dede Uzor A. Uzor, who is the chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), of HURIDE,said that, they  were  being interrupted and disrupted during PCRC meetings and other engagements which always led to suspension of classes.

Angered by the continuous collection of suspended and unauthorized revenue, the Ogbaru Local Government Area has swooped on illegal revenue collectors at different locations in the Local Government, seized their  different fake receipts and tickets.

The operation which took place on Monday and  lasted for about 7 hours saw the Taskforce of the Local Government moving  round strategic areas the fake revenue collectors operated such as the Harbour Industrial Layout, Atani Road by Obodoukwu Road junction, Obodoukwu Road by Ede Road and Obodoukwu Road by Express among others.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has concluded plan to solve once and for all the problem of flooding ravaging some communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the  Local Government Area, Comrade Arinzechukwu Awogu,who revealed  this,  weekend  said the settlements and communities that will benefit from the desalting of Sacamori that collect flood around the area include Okpoko, Idemili, Okoti, Odorobber, Ohita and Atani.

One Injured, Two Detained As Tipper Drivers Clash With LG Boys In Anambra

At least one person was injured and two others arrested as tipper drivers clashed  with boys working for the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Arinze Awogu.

The clash followed an attempted by Awogu boys to forcefully collect levies from the tipper drivers Tuesday which was resisted by the drivers.

The chairman of All Tipper Drivers Association of Anambra State, Comrade Ebuka Davidson Unakwe,  said some boys working for the Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government boss had gone to one of the places they  carry sand to enforce the collection of N200 per a trip per a day levy which his men resisted.

There was an Interlocutory injunction obtained  by some concerned traders in the market from Anambra State High Court sitting in  Onitsha, restraining the defendants  who included AMATAS officials, Sunday Obinze , members of his executives and others from conducting the election.

 Building Material Market, Ogidi, a suburb of Onitsha, the Anambra State commercial nerve centre has splashed over one hundred million naira on over 500 of its members.

The president of the market, Chief Jude Nwankwo, who stated this in an interview said the amount which has since been  disbursed to the beneficiaries was to rehabilitate some of its members whose businesses have nose-dived.

Group Decries Governor Obiano' s Constant Trip Abroad

Human Rights, Liberty Access and Defenders Foundation (HURIJE), a human right and pro-democracy organisation has decried the constant travels abroad by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State.

Addressing the press in Onitsha yesterday, the chairman BOT of the rights group, Dede Uzor A, Uzor,  said the visits have slowed down the pace of governance in the State.

He said the absence of the governor has created insecurity in the State which has resulted in the brutal murder of Nimo President General in Njikoka Local Government Area of the State, Chief Anthony Igboka and the alleged muder of about seven farmers in Ansmbra West by  Fulani Herdsmen some weeks back.

Former People's Democratic Party (PDP), governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Chief Victor Anigbata, has said the decision by the PDP Presidential candidate to drag his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Muhammad Buhari, to Court will stop electoral impunity in the country.
Chief Anigbata said if Atiku and PDP had failed to go to Court, the next President of Nigeria after Buhari would commit worse impunity.

He  said " if he has refused   to go to  Court as some people canvassed, it means we have accepted the impunity.It is good to go to Court to register our protest. If not, the person who will come after Buhari will do worse thing".
