Gov Obiano |
The Human Right, Liberty Access, and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE), in a statement in Onitsha, the Anambra State commercial hub, decries the deplorable State of the road, where a lot of lives have been lost and vehicles fallen.
In the statement signed by the chairman, Board of Trustees ( BoT) and the Secretary Barr. Noel Udoji, HURIDE also decried the rather lackadaisical attitude of the Governor towards rehabilitating Federal roads in the State.
They said his claim that it is a Federal road and he would not be reimbursed if he rehabilitate the roads,, does not hold water because 90 percent of the users of the are Anambra people who he swore to provide good governance for.
They said "the state of decayed infrastructure in the State showed that the people of Anambra State have entered 'one chance' by electing Obiano as our Governor.
It is surprising that a Governor who has lived in the first world; US, and ought to have domesticated his experience and their first class governance in Anambra State has joined the same Nigerian lacklustre style of governance".
Continuing the group said "we expect him to bring modern infrastructure such as rail, airport, good roads, water, good healthcare, employment, quality education, security, and many others".
They lamented that the much expected airport has been abandoned, while most cities, towns and communities are littered with bad roads.
The group however commended the Police from Okpoko and Awada and other Police divisions, Federal Road Safety personnel and members of the public for rescuing those who were trapped by an articulated vehicle at the Owerri Road bad portion last Wednesday.
HURIDE particularly lauded the Divisional Police Officers of Okpoko, Onyeka Adinuba and Tony both, Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP).
They said this was the eighth time in six months heavy vehicles would fall on the people, Keke and vehicles in the same spot.
In each of these situations except the latest incident, lives were lost, vehicles and Keke were destroyed.
"We want to commend the promptness and urgency on the part of the senior police officers, who swiftly moved their men to rescue the victims and took them to hospital. This shows we still have officers and men who are dedicated to the society"HURIDE said.
We also urge the DPO OKPOKO CSP ONYEKA ADINUBA to further use his professional expertise and channel its investigative prowess to Iyiowa,Okpoko and other cult infested areas to enable him checkmate their criminal onslaught against the defenceless citizens within his jurisdictional areas, Dede Uzor advised
