EARLY CHILD MARRIAGE: FOUNDATION RESCUES DELTA MINOR FROM 70-YEAR-OLD MAN, MUSTAFA, RETURNS BRIDE PRICE

Bermy Mercy, a foundation  formed with the sole aim of advocating against early child marriage and child abuse in and outside the country over the weekend rescued a victim, a 13-year-old girl from Isoko, Delta State, from  the hand of a 70 year old man with three wives by name, Manila Mustafa.

The Foundation's spokesperson disclosed this to some members of Delta Decides at Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria.

According to the spokesman, the said old man paid the Bride Price of 10,000 naira on two installments to the girl's parents with some Tubers of yam and some noodles.



Delta Decides also learnt that the girl had moved to the Man's house but ran out which attracted the attention of the foundation while the founder took immediate action.

While also responding to this matter,  Chief Mercy Eguriase Adjarho, the founder of the foundation said; "We are in this because the consent of the girl was not genuine which is stipulated in infant relief Act". that girl as at this age does not have capacity to free Will".

She further stressed that, the Child Right Act which was passed in 2003, set the age of female marriage at 18.

While also feeding questions from our newsmen, she further stressed that, section (S,29, (4)(a) specifies that any woman who is married shall be deemed to be full of age that is 18 and above.

Upon enquiry by this medium, it was gathered that the girl's father name (withheld) justified his nefarious act with claims that he receives 15,000 naira monthly and do not have money to feed them anymore.

The said girl is with her Aunty who also resides in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos Mrs, Christopher Sukiyaki as at the time of writing this report.
