***Clerics Raise Alarm over Unfulfilled Pledges by NSITF Chairman, Ngozi Olejeme
Several Church leaders in Delta State, especially the Catholic and the
Anglican denominations, have raised alarm over unfulfilled donations and
pledges made to their parishes by a frontline politician and Executive
Chairman, Nigeria Social Insurance and Security Trust Fund (NSITF), Dr.
(Mrs.) Ngozi Olejeme.
In the past three months, monetary
donations, which Olejeme pledged for pastoral activities to over 30
churches in the three Senatorial Districts of Delta State, are yet to be
fulfilled to the churches.
According to a leader of one of the
churches, Prince James Obi, the churches are already worried that
several months after such pledges were made they were yet to be
redeemed, especially as those who represented the top politician in such
functions no longer responded to phones calls both from leaders and
priests of the parishes in question.
As a result, James alleged that
either those who represented Dr. Olejeme in making the pledges in such
church functions were playing politics with the pledges in the houses of
God or that they had taken the money for themselves.
Investigations have further shown that already some of the priests from
the affected parishes, who have made frantic efforts to get such pledges
redeemed, were fast losing their patience, as nobody seemed to be ready
to address their complaints.
However, efforts made to reach Olejeme via short service message to comment on the matter were not successful as at press time.
