SCHOOL REQUEST: Gov. Uduaghan approves school for Okuijorogu community

Following an appeal by a Non-Governmental Organization, Delta Women for the establishing of a school at Okuijorogu community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan on Wednesday after a meeting with some representatives of the community at Asaba, approved the building of a model nursery and primary school in the community.


 It would be recalled that the governor had on 9th September, 2012 sent a delegation to the community led by the State co-ordinator, Uduaghan Vision Students, Comrade Philip Onos Urieh fact finding mission on the educational plight of the community, and Prof Hope Eghagha, Delta state commissioner for higher education.

It would also be recalled that Delta Women had written a letter to the State governor with the caption “Request for a School” signed by Elsie Reed, of Delta Womem and Mr Agboje Egbonimali Shadrack, the project officer of the NGO. The letter dated August 21, 2012 which was made available to Delta Decide, had appealed to the governor to build a school in the area to ameliorate the educational challenges of children in the community.

The letter which Delta Decides 2015 published had indicted the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) member representing Okpe constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Hon. Julius Okpoko, who is the Minority Leader due to his delay in accenting to the letter for speedy execution of the project. According to the letter,

“The community with over a thousand pupils and students is in need of an opportunity to be educated as they are forced to travel miles away to neighboring communities of Adeje, Egborode and Okwijemor in their quest for their education pursuit.” In his reply on the execution of the school project in the community, Hon. Okpoko had stated that, the project would be in the front burner of this year’s budget following its passage by the House. On her part, CEO of Delta Women said she was grateful to the State governor for keeping to his word on the establishment of the school in the area.

 Delta Decides 2015 want to thank Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Professor Hope Eghagha, Delta State commissioner for Higher Education, Delta women Ceo, Elsie Ijorogu-Reed, Mr. Agboje Egbonimali Shadrack, Hon, Julius Okpoko, DPP minority member representing Okpe constituency at Delta State House of Assembly for their efforts.
