ASABA – Afure Sakpra, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Governor’s Office, Delta State, has disclosed that the state spends over N23 million monthly to care for widows.
He revealed this on Thursday during a ministerial press briefing, maintaining that the state government was looking to extend the number of widows’ slot under Widow Welfare Scheme.
According to him, the scheme has been effective, as over 5,000 despondent widows from each ward in the state benefitted from the monthly stipends.
“These widows are engaged into the state insurance scheme, where you would be entitled to free health services. No matter the degree or severity of the illness that may confront them, they are to get free health care,” he revealed.
“There are some special wards that have more people and again this particular problem has given us so much accolades as a result of the free healthcare benefit attached to it,” he said.
