WE MUST FIGHT AGAINST RAPE IN NIGERIA ~Vera Gold ***** Holds Anti Rape Rally In Delta

ASABA - The founder and chief executive officer of Vera Gold foundation, Mrs. Vera Chika Osigiede has called on Nigerians to help fight against the menace of rape culture in Nigeria.

The CEO  who is also an evangelist made the call on the 27th of August, 2021, during the rally organized by the foundation, which was titled, "Say no to rape" held in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria.

Mrs. Vera while speaking to the public, explained rape to be sexual intercorse without consent or consent that is not genuine.

She noted that men can also be raped, especially when the victim's consent was not genuine.

Speaking also from the angle of consent, Mrs Vera Chika disclosed that a significant proportion of victims of rape or other sexual violence incidents are male.

She noted that, rape was thought to be, and defined as, a crime committed solely against females which she said was a belief still held in some parts of the world, revealing that rape of males is now commonly criminalized in some western parts of the world just as she disclosed is a subject to more discussion than in the past.

"Rape of males is still taboo, and has a negative connotation among heterosexuality. When we talk of rape, we only narrow it to female in Nigeria which is absolutely wrong. The men can also be raped"

Disclosing to members of the public at Ogbogonogo, Mrs. Vera emphasized the need for parents to properly monitor their children, especially the female ones, noting that such could guarantee their safety as well protect them against rape or any form of sexual harassment

She reiterated that feeding children and sending them to school was not the only thing required to bring up children, rather, drawing them closer and enquiring about their mood status.

Citing examples of some rape victims, the CEO. disclosed that, a lot of persons had died while trying to commit abortion as a result of rape.

Her words," we must collectively tame this draconic tendency called rape. It is a societal hazard that must be brought to a complete end. "

She urged parents to always pay adequate attension to their children which she said was a veritable means of curbing the menace called rape.

Continuing, she added that one of the ways parents can protect their Children is to be best friends to their Children, just as she stated an effective means of avoiding sexual harassment or rape.
