Willy Obiano
The Anambra State Government has been urged to provide Tricycle operators in the State with affordable Tricycle Driver's Permit to insulate them from persistent harassment and extortion from security operatives especially the Police.

The Chief Media/Taskforce Officer of Unified Tricycle Owners and Riders Association (UTORAAS), Dede Uzor, A. Uzor, who made the call in Onitsha said the cost of obtaining new driver's licence now is very expensive , which many Keke operators can hardly afford, given the prevailing economic situation in the country.

He said most of the Tricycle operators are  on higher purchase, wondering when they would have the resources to obtain N30, 000.00 driving licence from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), given the fact that there is no resources for that and long process involved in obtaining driver's licence in the country now.

He said Tricycle Driver's Permit will legitimise their operation on the road and shield them from constant harassment and extortion from security operatives on the road.

Dede Uzor lauded Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State who out of magnanimity and foresight brought sanity to Tricycle operation in the State through the re-appointment of a level headed, humble and humane person, Chief Uchenna Okafor as Transport Commissioner.

He also commended Chief Okafor popularly called "Wiper"  for the innovation he has brought so far  into the sector in the State.
Dede Uzor, a hunan right activist, said the Commissioner has changed the face of transportation sector in the State through the rebranding of tricycles and buses as well their digital numbering, which will help to checkmate crimes.

Dede Uzor also lauded the chairman of UTORAAS in the State, Comrade Sylvester Obiora (JP) and his Secretary  for their purposeful leadership , professionalism, sanity and respect for human rights they have brought into the keke industry.

He said they have also succeeded  in checkmating the activities of thugs and extortionists, who have been diverting the revenue of the State, saying with what is on the ground Anambra State can reach its optimal revenue generation in the sector.
So far, we have arrested 5 suspected illegal revenue collectors and handed them over to Onitsha Area Command for prosecution.

But the Chief Media/Taskforce Officer appealed to Governor Obiano to fulfill the promise he made to Anambrians when he banned  the use of motorbikes in the State, that he would provide tricycles to the Union to enable them empower youths in the state.
.
He said that the leadership of UTORAAS have vowed to partner with relevant transport stakeholders like Road Safety and  Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIOs), comes 29th August 2019  to educate the operators  on safety to see the need to obey traffic rules and regulations.
