Rocha's Okorocha |
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has been urged to avert impending bloodbath in Egwedu Community in Njaba Local Government Area of the State following 16 years of crisis over the contest for the traditional stool and the President-General of the community.
The Chairman of Uburu Ahiara village in Egwedu Autonomous Community, and an Onitsha based business man, Chief Eric Uwoma made the call while speaking with newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Chief Uwoma who is also the Chairman of Onitsha South Shop Owners Traders Association of Nigeria, OSSOTAN, Onitsha Anambra state alleged that some people were benefiting in the crisis, while the entire community have been plunged into backwardness due to the crisis.
Chief Uwaoma asked Governor Okorocha not to allow any election or selection of traditional ruler of the community as that would negate the Court judgment of Monday June 11, 2018 which decided that the rule of law should be maintained in the election or selection of the traditional ruler of the community.
According to Chief Uwaoma, “in spite of the court judgment of Monday June 11, 2018, some people are still going about the community boasting and dropping the name of Governor and the Commissioner for Community Government Council, CGC as being behind them.”
He continued "what the people that are behind the name dropping have succeeded in doing is inciting our people against Governor Okorocha and the Commissioner for CGC.They should therefore, quickly investigate the attempt by those people to illegally impose a traditional ruler on the people of Egwedu because we will resist it and it may lead to bloodshed"
He said they had an interim traditional ruler and President general from 2011 until Monday June 11, 2018 and immediately the court gave the judgment they vacated their seats to make way for the emergence of a new people in accordance with the decisions of the court
But some unscrupulous individuals, said Chief Uwaoma have been trying to hijack the process of getting a new traditional ruler and President general of Egwedu through kangaroo election.
