IKA HAS ZERO REPRESENTATION IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Sebastine Ambassadors

By Egbonimali Shadrack
The Sabastine Okoh Ambassadors, a political group aimed at advertising the political qualities of Mr. Sabastine Okoh, Executive Assistant to the Governor Okowa on Entertainment, has said that the people of Ika has no representation in the Lower Chambers of the National Assembly. The group made the verdict at a press conference held in Agbor on Friday.

The coordinator, Mr. Ambrose Chiemeke, who was flanked by some leaders of the group, said their primary focus was to solicit for representation that will meet the yearnings of the people.

According to him, Ika politics "has evolved as well as the desire and clamour for good and sustainable representation of the Ika people in governance in order to reposition and re-access the political advantage that have long been incarcerated have summoned our collective mandate under the aegis of SEBASTINE AMBASSADORS."

While saying that the membership of the group cuts across all strata, Mr. Chiemeke narrowed their mandate principally as "election and elevation of one man who has brought the socio-political feet of the Ika nation to limelight, Mr. Sabastine Okoh.

On whether it was proper for Ika North East Local Government Area to monopolize the position of House of Representatives, the coordinator said though he was a firm believer of equity and fairness but argued that thus far, giving political position based on geographical location has done more harm than good. According to him, "it is better to have a good friend than a bad brother. What the Ika people need, is quality representation. They are not keen about place of birth. The Ika Man needs better infrastructure. He cares less about the origin but who is able to bring these social infrastructure. Happily, we have got a young man, who has shown that he has the interest of the people far and above his personal interest."

Mr. Chiemeke said Mr. Sabastine Okoh is a very loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. According to him, there is a groundswell of support for Mr. Sabastine Okoh. This is because he has proved to be in resonance with the challenges confronting his people.
While alluding to the insinuation of poor turnout of electorate in the last council polls, the coordinator said the same trend was recorded at Umunede and that the situation should not be traced to Mr. Okoh. He said, " in the last election, the turnout was abysmally poor. The reasons are many. The most important was imposition of candidates. Time has come for party leaders not to undermine the wish of the people. I am sure we will not make the mistakes in the building up to 2019 elections."

On a programme to "unveil Sabastine Okoh " tomorrow at Umunede, Mr. Chiemeke said, it will afford the people opportunity to be better informed on the enviable attributes of the the great Umunede-born philanthropist.
According to him, the event which will be covered by national media organisations, will attract major political players, artists and community leaders.
