DELTA 2015; APC SHOPS FOR URHOBO CANDIDATE.....AS PDP MAY GIVE IT TICKET TO ANIOMA

AHEAD of the 2015 governorship poll in Delta State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, is shopping for an Urhobo governorship candidate from Delta Central senatorial district to fly its flag during the election

The choice of an Urhobo candidate by the party, DELTA DECIDES gathered in Benin, followed a strong indication that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may field a candidate from Delta North senatorial zone for the plum job and the deputy governorship candidate from Delta South, leaving the speakership position to the Central senatorial district.

A very reliable source who did not want his name to be mentioned and who attended a meeting in the house of a former governor of Edo State in Benin where the decision to field an Urhobo candidate for the election was taken, told DELTA DECIDES that the speakership position given Urhobo ethnic nationality was unacceptable to the Urhobos whose population in the state dwarfs the other two senatorial zones combined.

He recalled that the APC, before the death of late Senator Pius Ewherido, had hoped that he would fly the party’s governorship flag, in view of his popularity in Urhoboland and the entire state, adding that it explained the reason the party’s structure was built around him.

It was further leant that following recent developments in the state, some stakeholders of the APC that met behind closed doors recently are working towards reaching out to a popular Urhobo politician whose popularity cut across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Meanwhile, it has been sealed from the presidency that the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, would field a candidate from Delta North senatorial district to fly the party's flag, though the source from the presidency could not speak on who would be the consensus candidate among the Anioma aspirants.
