Human Right, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation, (HURIDE), which made the call said virtually all the roads in the State especially in urban centres of the State were now in deplorable State.
The President of Board of Trustees (BoT), HURIDE, Dede Uzor, A Uzor, said the call has become imperative given the dilapidated State of roads in the State, which has hampered human and vehicular movements.
"After a tour of some of the roads in the State by the leadership of HURIDE, it became necessary for us to call on Governor to immediately intervene by declaring a State of emergency on the roads in the State", he said.
Dede Uzor mentioned some of the bad roads that needed the attention of the Governor in Onitsha and environs as Niger Street to Main Market, Porthacourt Road to Upper Iweka, Miss Elems to Porthacourt Road, Zik Avenue, Modebe Avenue to Bids Road, Creek Road, Iweka Road to Main Market, Oguta Road, dualization of 3-3 -Otuocha-Omor, Akpaka Forest Reserve Road, Obodo-Ukwu Road, Ede Road, Ngbuka-Amazu Road.
Others, he said, are Eze-Iweka, Okpoko roads, Odekpe road and many other roads in Awka, Nnewi and various parts of the State.
He further said that he shall immediately construct a bridge linking Iyiowa Odekpe to Okpoko and Iyiowa Odekpe to Oba inturn paving the way for easy flow of traffic especially those who are normally stocked at excruciating traffic at Onitsha Owerri.
He said all these roads are trunk B and C roads, belonging to the States and Local Governments and they are very strategic to socio-economic development of the State.
The HURIDE boss lamented that the bad roads have adversely affected the economic activities in the State, saying the earlier the Governor does these roads the better for him and his party because he will regain his diminishing popularity.
