The Ughelli metropolis in general, and the Iwhreko sub-community in particular, were thrown into morning Sunday 22 July 2018, with sad news of the gruesome murder of the Iwhreko youth chairman, Mr. Ejiro Ikpikpini, who was brutally murdered in cold blood in his residence.

The horrible act came barely a day after he was said to have been mandated by the elders and leaders to take charge of revenue collections on behalf of the Iwhreko from traders selling at the Ughelli Main Market, to which his murder is believed to be connected to.

According to sources, the revenue collection processes have been trailed by controversies in recent times with those hitherto in charge allegedly being sanctioned for alleged lack of remittance to the community purse, thereby paving the way and necessitating the appointment of the youth chairman to take charge of the process.

The magazine gathered that after the murdered youth chairman got the mandate of the community to take charge of the revenue collections, on Saturday July 21, trouble broke out prompting him to lodged formal complaint at the police station, unknowing that his assailants were to struck that night.

The bandits allegedly assessed his flat at Oguori Street, Uloho Avenue, through a tiny opening they created by cutting and bending some rods in the metal protector of his bathroom, tied him up before clubbing and stabbing severally until he died.

It was also gathered that the dare-devil assassins also made attempt to rape the victim's wife, whom they were said to have stripped before changing their minds against the rape idea, only to stab her in the private parts.

Already, it was also gathered that the police in Ughelli has swung into action with arrests already made in connection with the dastardly act.

A senior police officer who prefers to remain anonymous confided in the magazine that the police have made arrests and "we're getting good leads towards unraveling the identity of all those involved for prosecution."
