The Federal Capital Territory [FCT ] administration has graduated a total of 106 trainees that participated in its three months first foundation apprenticeship N- Power build programme.
The N-Power Build programme is a National Social Investment Scheme designed to address opportunities for young and unemployed Nigerians to earn a living through the acquisition of entrepreneur and leadership skills suitable for employment in a knowledge- driven economy.
The three months programme was coordinated by the Department of Science and Technology together with the Government Science technical College, Garki which also serves as the training centre.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held in Abuja, the FCT Secretary for Education, Senator Isa Maina said the programme is one of the numerous initiatives of theMuhammadu Buhari –led government aimed at alleviating the hardship of Nigerians especially that of youth unemployment.
Represented by the Acting Director of Administration and finance , Aliyu Gatawa , Maina noted: ‘’ Today is evident that we can see that government is proudly empowering our youths through this skills acquisition and training programme for a sustainable economicgrowth and development. ”
In a goodwill message , the Acting Director of the Department of Science and Technology , Mrs. Christiana Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the laudableefforts.
She however urged the graduands to build on what they have learnt as it is a sure way to secure their future .
Earlier , the Principal of the Government Science and Technical College Garki, Abuja who also doubles as Head of the N-Power Build Programme in the FCT , Muhammed IdrisOndeku said that the scheme has SEVEN components in the non -graduate category adding that the college only ran FIVE out of the seven while the Department of Science and Technology, Utako Centre ran the remaining three .
According to him: ‘’ The trainings covered areas like Automobile , electrical , Masonry, Plumbing , Pipe fitting as well as Welding and Fabrication, out of the 156 trainees admitted for the programme, 139 actually registered and eventually only 106 completed the training scheme successfully. ”
