SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT: PETER IDION URGES SHERIF PDP FACTION TO EMBRACE PEACE AND RECONCILIATION

By Aleh Anita
Since the declaration of the Supreme Court last week on who the real chairman of PDP is, calm has returned to the party, with both factions toeing the line of reconciliation.

With this development, the PDP Chairman Ika South local government, Hon. Collins Bello has during the week inaugurated a reconciliation committee in the local government headed by Chief Igumbor, the Osagwe of Agbor Kingdom, with  Mr. Peter Idion, S. A to the governor on Community Relation as one of the members. As a member of the reconciliation committee, Mr. Idion has appealed to the Sherif PDP faction to return to the umbrella body of the PDP, especially in Ika South Local Government.

He stated that there would be no point in going to form or float another political party, as they are well known, recognized and respected in PDP, he urged them to join hands and work together with the Markarfi led PDP in order to ensure the governor of the state, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is returned to office in 2019, stressing that there is no vacancy at the Government House, Asaba.

He further urged all PDP members in both local governments to work together, adding that if Ika Nation misses the opportunity to return Okowa as the governor come 2019, it will take another 50 years before such opportunity will come to Ika Nation again.

According to him, “it will be wrong for any Ika man to support anybody aside Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for governor, saying that anybody that does that will be referred to as an enemy of Ika Land, and also an enemy of progress”.

He urged all hands to be on deck, to embrace peace and unity in pursuing a common goal, saying that a house divided against itself cannot stand. He further affirmed that there is no opposition party in Delta state, as the state is a PDP state, and the opposition in the state is submerged in internal crisis, and has no plans for the people.

He concluded by admonishing all PDP members to avoid blame games and finger pointing, urging them to work as one big family. He used the opportunity to call on the Makarfi led PDP to forgive and welcome the Sheriff led PDP members, so that the party can forge ahead, especially in Ika South Local Government Area.

Senate Bans Goodluck Jonathan From 2019 Presidential Polls

The Nigerian Senate has today ruled against the participation of a former president of the country, Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming elections.

Recall that the former president who lost in 2015 against the ruling president, Muhammadu Buhari had made his plight to re-contest for the Presidency known some months ago.

The Nigerian Senate has however on Wednesday shattered the ambition following its decision which was reached after a voting process.

The Senate declared that the former president was barred from re-contesting and running for a second term in office. This was done during voting in series of new bills being passed by the upper legislative chamber.

The Bill sought that any vice president who had completed a tenure of a sitting president and contested a fresh four years mandate shall not be eligible to run for a second term of office.

Re: Okowa's Aide Fumbles On His Own Speech

By Agboje Chuks
I stumbled on a report, by a media blog with the above title, which I read with rapt attention because, I wanted to know which of the Okowa's aide and how he fumbled on his own speech.

Reading through the report, I became astonished, and was left in wonderment as, the said Aide happens to be a retired teacher, educationist of not the modern era, but a teacher of the old block, who unleashed his best when there was educational potency.

In the report also, he mentioned that a board member absconded with the sum of 500 thousand naira and that food was diverted.

These gave me a clearer picture of what his intentions were, and also gave me the requisite strength and reasons to intro inspect him.

Sequel to the above, I would have replied him from my understanding immediately, but was in a tight corner due to the ever increasing demand of my job.

In a clearer sense, I concluded that the writer's report was full of paradoxes and lacked Res  Sua, since the body of report lacked the informative strengths to prove to the public how a teacher and a former local Chairman who was signing memo and other correspondence could not read his own speech.

The report is not only defamatory, but against writing rules, since there is no complete the "5 ,W and The H" hence, the writer would have told us who was the board member who absconded with the said amount, since there is a saying that "he who accuses one for stealing his chicken, should be able to provide his feather as prove".

Scanning also through the accused, Hon. Sunny Ogwu's profile, one would see that he have excellent track records and has trained people who are colossus in variant profession.

Ruminating on the above, one would also see that the writer may have written because he was prompted to have reasoned through his stomach as he emphatically mentioned it that they also diverted food or, he may have had his reasoning deficiency surfaced which I suggest that a psychotherapist should recommend psychotherapy after much intro - inspection.

I hail the judgment and appreciate most especially, my governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, other governors in the country and all PDP leaders for the sacrifices, time and resources committed to the case while it lasted in court. The judgment no doubt will reposition our party towards landslide victories in 2019 general elections. I urge Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and his cohorts to sheath their swords and join hands with Senator Makarfi to build the PDP as there is no victor no vanquish. He used the medium to reiterate his avowed commitment towards the success of Governor Okowa's administration."

Finally, Nwaonicha said "the apex court decision is a victory to democracy, loss to dictatorship and one party state. DESOPADEC is Moribund, Dead and Buried With Forgotten Obsequies - Sam Odibo

A high chief from Udu, Chief Sam Odibo, the Spokesman of Udu Kingdom, has declared that as far as Udu Local Council Area was concerned, the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC, is moribund, dead and buried with forgotten obsequies.

He adding that for so many years running, the commission has not done anything for the people of the oil-rich Udu LGA of the state, stressing that the purpose for which the agency was established has been defeated.

It would be noted that since the inception of this Okowa led administration not a single contract has been awarded, the oil producing communities have been completely neglected in the very eyes of our representatives in government and our traditional rulers.

The Governor has consistently diverted the 13% derivation funds meant for oil bearing communities thereby leaving the once vibrant organisation in comatose.

Former DTHA Members Petition Okowa Over Unpaid Allowances and severances Allowances

Three former members of the Delta State House of Assembly in the last administration have petitioned Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over their unpaid allowances and severances.

In a letter made available to this medium, which was signed by A. O. Ikolo on behalf of Austine O. Ikolo & Co., Hon. Chief Barr. Obukohwo Joseph Oshevire, Hon. Chief Julius Okpoko and Hon. Jenkins Duvie Giane who represented Ethiope East, Okpe and Ughelli North 2 constituencies respectively from 2011-2015 stated that "their salaries and allowances borne by the Delta State Government were fully paid save for the allowances for the months of April and May 2015, where a paltry sum was paid out of the total allowances for both months".

The letter further reads: "we are further informed that the severance and allowances for the members of the House and that of their aides which falls due at the end of 2011-2015 session has also not been paid up till date".

The former Honourable members wondered why Sen. Okowa who himself has received all his allowances and severance allowance from the federal government shortly after serving as Senator of the federal republic but refused to pay the former lawmakers of his state.

The former honourable members asked Governor Okowa to pay up their allowances and severances within three weeks upon the receipt of the letter as they will be left with no option than to seek legal option should he neglect/fail or refuse to pay them what is due to them.
