2015 Governorship Race…..Delta Speaker Under Threat

Assembly Complex, Okowa, Ochei and Okonta
It is no longer a rumour as the news is every where that the current speaker of Delta state House of Assembly, Rt,Hon. Victor Onyekachi Ochei is running for the governorship seat come 2015 under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Al though he has not publicly declared his intention, he has set machineries in place to realize his ambition.

Ochei, who is from Onicha-Olona in Aniocha North Local Government Area, has a very wide political network in the state and is seen as a “big threat” by an Anioma top aspirant who is also said to be eyeing the governorship seat on the same platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

An impeccable source confided to Delta Decides that the speaker is under threat owing to his ambition and closeness to the incumbent Governor. A committee formed to impeach the speaker is headed by Hon Martins Okonta, from Ika south LG.

Other members of the committee are Princess Pat Ajudua from Oshimilli North, Hon Sam Obi from Ika North East, Hon. Dr Ojo from Ukwuani, Hon Monday Igbuya Majority Leader from sapele, and a house member from Ughelli North. Should the impeachment move scale through, Princess Pat would become the next speaker

According to the source, an Anioma top 2015 guber aspirant, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is behind the move to impeach the Speaker as he perceives Ochei’s candidature, coupled with his closeness to Governor Uduaghan, would ruin his chances of occupying the Unity House, Asaba.

On whether Governor Uduaghan has a hand in it, the source exonerated the governor and blamed it on the desperation of Senator Okowa.

It would be recalled that Dr Ojo decamped from the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and was taken to court by the DPP Ukwuani Excos. However, the court declared his seat vacant and asks the DPP to conduct bye election to replace Ojo while Princess Ajudua decamped from her Accord Part to PDP not too long…

Deltans, we shall keep you updated as the event unfolds!
